Artist in Residence - Michaela Swan
This October the Glasshouse welcomes fibre artist Michaela Swan to our Artist in Residency program. Michaela will work on a new series of work that will contribute to a future exhibition within the Gallery program in 2018.
Swan is an interdisciplinary artist, predominantly centred in Fibres - Textiles with performance elements, and sculpture. Swan’s work explores how materials can be used for other purposes and applied to non-traditional objects to create juxtaposition/paradox between materials and concepts. Many of her works are inspired by personal experiences and memories, places or materials and processes.
Swan is an emerging artist living and working in Newcastle NSW. Swan grew up in Laurieton before relocating in 2012 to pursue studies in Fine Art at the University of Newcastle, she graduated in 2014 with Distinction. Swan studied a semester abroad at Hong Kong Baptist University in 2013 where she studied Wearable Art and Glass Casting, this developed her interest in travelling, foreign culture and the shared relationship that every person has with textiles.
The Glasshouse Artist in Residency program provides a working space for artists to develop their arts practice.
