EDUCATION @ THE GLASSHOUSE - TERM 3

TEACHERS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

INTRODUCTION TO THEATRICAL STAGE LIGHTING with Adrian Sterritt
Tuesday 17 August 2010, 4.30-6.30pm

Glasshouse Senior Technician, Adrian Sterritt, is a WAAPA graduate and has worked in the theatrical lighting industry for 20 years, lighting productions for some of Australia's leading arts companies. Adrian will lead this introductory course designed to help participants:

  • Understand the role of lighting in a stage production and the techniques involved including colour, focus, depth, fade times and lighting angles.
  • Create different lighting states and realise the impact of light in communicating a location, atmosphere or emotion.

This session will involve hands-on use of the Glasshouse Theatre lighting equipment. It will include a mix of theory and practice to develop participants’ abilities to think more creatively about lighting productions, and to better understand the Glasshouse Theatre standard lighting rig.

This is an ideal development opportunity for any teacher directing or lighting live productions to better understand the importance of stage lighting in enhancing the live performance experience.

EXHIBITIONS

The 58th Blake Prize for Religious Art, 29 July - 26 September
The Blake Prize for Religious Art is one of the more prestigious art prizes in Australia. For 58 years it has been awarding a $20,000 non-acquistive prize for works of art that explore the subject of religious awareness and spirituality. Unlike other art prizes that are awarded for distinct subject areas such as landscape or portraiture, the Blake has always invited a much more open, personal and idiosyncratic response, so much so that it has earned the criticism, ire and sometimes applause of critics and the public alike.  This year there is also a new category, the Blake Prize for Human Justice.
