Opera Australia’s Oz Opera has announced an additional performance of Madame Butterfly in the Glasshouse 2008 Spring Season program.
Due to the outstanding response by the Hastings community to their production of Madame Butterfly scheduled for 16 September, Oz Opera has restructured its NSW touring schedule to enable a second performance of Madame Butterfly to be presented at the Glasshouse on 17 September 2008.According to Jennifer Kerr, Oz Opera’s Manager:
"Opera Australia's Oz Opera can't wait to return Port Macquarie in 2008 and are eagerly anticipating the inaugural operatic performance of Madame Butterfly at the new Glasshouse. While Oz Opera performs in both traditional and non-traditional venues across Australia, from aircraft hangars to haysheds, it is always a pleasure to perform in a fully-equipped theatre that is designed with both performers and audiences in mind.
It's so exciting that our first performance at the Glasshouse sold out within 36 hours. We arethrilled to be able to stage a second performance of the world's favourite opera, Madame Butterfly, and share the magic of opera with even more of the Hastings-Port Macquarie community." The additional performance of Madame Butterfly will ensure that all three and four show subscribers tothe 2008 Glasshouse Spring Season program will have the opportunity to upgrade their subscription to include a ticket to Madame Butterfly. The special offer to existing subscribers closes on Friday 22 February 2008. Single ticket sales commence on Monday 3 March 2008.
Robyn Birrell, Director, Performing Arts at the Glasshouse commented: “The offer by Oz Opera ofa second performance of Madame Butterfly is great news for subscribers who were unable to include the opera in their original subscription because the opera sold out so quickly. We are delighted that acompany of Oz Opera’s standing recognises the significance of the Glasshouse to the Hastings community and has made this second performance available. There may be a small number of tickets available to the second performance of the opera when single tickets go on sale from 3 March but it will depend on the response from existing three and four show subscribers - who should promptly call the Glasshouse Box Office on (02) 6581 8888 to secure their opera tickets.”
Madame Butterfly is a new production by Oz Opera, the travelling arm of Opera Australia, and theartistic director is John Bell, from Bell Shakespeare. Jane Parkin, who visited Port Macquarie for the 2008 Glasshouse Spring Season launch on 6 December last year, will play the role of Madame Butterflyin both performances of the opera on 16 and 17 September 2008 in the newly opened Glasshouse.
