Due to the delayed opening of the Glasshouse until early 2009, Glasshouse management has reviewed arrangements for presenting shows in the 2008 On Tour Spring Season program.
The good news is that Oz Opera’s new production of Madame Butterfly and the hugely popular Menopause the Musical will be staged at Panthers Port Macquarie. Madame Butterfly will be presented on Tuesday 16 September and Wednesday 17 September 2008 at 8pm, as planned. There has been a date change with Menopause the Musical and this will now be staged on Friday 28 November at 8pm and Saturday 29 November at 2pm and 8pm. Regrettably, due to staging and technical requirements and other touring commitments, three shows are now unable to be presented – Codgers, Wharf Review and Bombshells.
Grant Dodwell, Co-producer of Codgers, was upbeat about the situation. “Of course we are disappointed in the cancellation… however, I know it is only a postponement…how do I know?... well two reasons, one, there is an old showbiz saying ‘The show must go on!’ and two, the Glasshouse will be the most sought after venue in Australia, shows will be queuing up to perform there… and guess what, we’re first on the list! Codgers will return!”
John Bell, Artistic Director of Oz Opera’s Madame Butterfly, was philosophical about the change of venue."I am very glad to be staging this wonderful work for Oz Opera. It is a piece that does not necessarily need the resources of a large-scale production: it is a simple domestic tragedy about relatively humble people. Hopefully we will be able to demonstrate the truth of the adage that small is also beautiful." Subscribers and single ticket holders have been individually contacted by mail, advising them of changes and providing details regarding ticket exchange, potential credits or refunds. A list of FAQ (frequently asked questions) has been updated on the Glasshouse website.
Single tickets for Madame Butterfly and Menopause the Musical will go on sale on Monday 9 June 2008, subject to availability. Telephone the Glasshouse Box Office on 6581 8888 or log on to the website (www.glasshouse.org.au).
