INFORMATION FOR COMMUNITY HIRERS

Frequently asked questions

Q: I would like to hire the venue for for  a rehearsal and performances ? How much will it cost me ?

A: The cost is dependant on a number of factors which can be discussed with the Venue Hire and Operations staff at the Glasshouse prior to your booking in order for you to be provided with a formal quote. It also depends on the type of event.

If you are a community hirer, you will need to determine which category and room fits your needs or speak to staff at the Glasshouse, especially where your event may use multiple spaces over different periods of time.

For example the main theatre can be hired for 4 hours, at a fee of $440 including GST if you are expecting no more than 400 people. This is $1.10 per person, inclusive of GST.

Glasshouse staff are on hand to provide you with a quote which is specific to your needs.

However there is a ticketing fee which applies to each ticket. This is to cover the services that the box office provides in sales and marketing, selling your tickets, printing and ensuring that all customer service standards are kept at a high level and to ensure that we as venue managers and you as the hirer comply with privacy and safety legislation in managing legal occupancy requirements.  There are many benefits in using our box office – namely advertising, staff available to answer questions during business hours, exchanges of tickets, replacing lost tickets.

The hire fee includes all services and equipment that you would readily expect to have available at the centre including cleaning.

Q : I wish to sell my own tickets ?

A : You will be provided with an allocation from our box office, printed and in hard copy. A fee still applies and it is recommended that you utilise the services of the Glasshouse Box Office

Q : Can I use my own ushers ?

A :  Yes, however they will work together with Glasshouse ushers to ensure that we do not breach our requirements under various acts. All volunteer ushers will receive training by Glasshouse staff prior to any events or performances.

Q : Will I need to pay for equipment use at the centre ?

A : Generally you will not be required to pay for the use of equipment which is available with the venue.

However if there are additional requirements over and above those which are able to be accommodated within your allocated venue hire time, or a request for equipment which the centre does not own, then an additional fee will be payable and will be quoted separately.

It is envisaged that most community events will not require additional equipment based on the original tender quantities and equipment lists scoped by council.

Q : I want to work out how to price my tickets, what should I do ?

A : The Glasshouse staff are available to assist and help in any way possible. That includes services such as

  • Pre event planning and consultation
  • Technical and Production
  • Sound and Lighting
  • Food and Beverage
  • Sales and Marketing, Box Office
  • Printing and Publicity

Pre event planning and consultation with staff will help you to ensure your event is socially and economically successful. The Glasshouse will be continually encouraging you to make use of the skills and knowledge of professional staff employed by the centre.

Q : I still do not quite understand the cost structure ?

A : The venue is a new venue and can indeed be used in many different ways. This is why the centre is unique. It accepts community and commercial users, local, national and international groups. Please contact the Glasshouse staff with your query and they will arrange to speak and meet with you.
