BYE BYE BIRDIE
presented by The Players Theatre
Directed by Daniel Parlevliet
Winner of multiple Tony Awards, including best musical (1961), Bye Bye Birdie was inspired by the phenomenon of popular singer Elvis Presley and his draft notice into the Army in 1957.
When the draft selects rock star Conrad Birdie, his fans are devastated, but none more than struggling songwriter Albert Peterson, whose song Birdie was just about to record. Albert's longtime girlfriend and secretary, Rosie, pushes Albert to write a new tune that Birdie will perform on television to a fan selected in a contest. The scheme works, with young teenager Kim McAfee, declared the winner, but no one has counted on the jealous wrath of her boyfriend.
The Players Theatre Inc. bring the show to life under the direction of Daniel Parlevliet (The Producers) and see the return of Ian Castle to the Players stage. Ian plays Albert Peterson opposite Amanda Gordon who takes on the roll of Rose Alvarez. a musical comedy to be enjoyed by the whole family.
