Glasshouse Regional Gallery Presents:

Our Artist in Residence

Liam's Digital Residency

Our 2021 invited Artist in Residence, Liam Benson (based in Sydney), was unable to attend his scheduled residency back in August of this year. However, we were excited to be able to do things a little differently this year.

This digital residency was an opportunity for Liam to engage with our community remotely. From 30 September to 30 November 2021, we collected submissions from Mid-North Coast locals who have tattoos that they wanted to share. In this community callout, Liam was able to gather information that will contribute to an artwork to be featured in his 2022 solo exhibition at Glasshouse Regional Gallery.

Visual Mapping our Local Identity

We are excited to announce that in December 2021, Liam will be joining us at Glasshouse Regional Gallery for some in-person community engagement sessions. Find out more here.

About the Artist:

Liam Benson is a multi-disciplinary artist living and working on Dharug Country, Western Sydney. Incorporating performance, photography, video and textiles, Benson’s work explores identity and culture as a living dualistic process, both informed by and influencing the spectrum of collective consciousness through exchange.

Liam’s practice is informed by working collaboratively with diverse communities through an ongoing conversation about how culture, sub-culture and identity interrelate and evolve. Liam Benson’s works are held in significant public and private collections including The MCA Australia, the Art Gallery of South Australia, Artbank and Western Sydney University. Liam Benson is represented by Artereal Gallery, Sydney.
