Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Art Collection

The Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Art Collection comprises over 200 donated and acquired artworks reflecting its major themes: abstraction and landscape.

The Collection began through an acquisitive annual art competition. In 2003 the Regional Gallery Advisory Board set guidelines for acquiring new artworks and the Glasshouse now continues to oversee acquisitions, framing and conservation requirements.

With the opening of the Glasshouse in 2009, the Collection has developed significantly.  Recent acquisitions include artworks from artists with a significant national profiles including works by Euan Macleod, Elizabeth Cummings, Marion Borgelt, Alun Leach-Jones, Nola Jones, Chris Langlois and Luke Sciberras.

Collection artworks form the foundation of numerous Glasshouse curated exhibitions and programs each year. In addition, Collection artworks are displayed throughout the Glasshouse and Council buildings.

Recently the gallery has embarked on a Collection digitisation project to allow greater access to the Collection through a number of digital platforms. This project has been generously supported by the Gordon Darling Foundation.
