Her Hands Moved Every Colour exhibition celebrates four artists’ unique application of colour, demonstrated through collage, sculpture, painting, and textiles.

Beauty blown up, stitched, painted, and repurposed, a nostalgic journey filled with memories, dreams and the beatification of the everyday. Playfulness and fun bursts through each of the artist’s hands creating an elegant visual wonderland.

This exhibition continues to the Glasshouse Regional Gallery’s commitment to supporting local artists providing opportunities to develop new work and present quality artistic experiences for our community and visitors to our region.

About the Artists

Claire Johnson

Claire Johnson is a multi-disciplinary artist currently based on Birpai Country, Mid North Coast of NSW, Australia. Claire completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in ceramics at UNSW Art and Design in November 2014.

Working predominately with the mediums of ink, paper collage and ceramic Claire’s work is a homage to movement, the idea of the gesture through the artists hand, mythology and femininity.

As well as exhibiting locally, nationally and internationally Claire has worked on numerous commercial and interior projects. She has also created to critical acclaim print designs for a number of fashion labels for both Australian and European brands.

Fiona Solley

Fiona Solley, an Australian artist, illustrator, and surface pattern designer whose creations breathe life into the canvas with a vibrant celebration of patterns and a profound connection to the natural world. Drawing inspiration from her idyllic surroundings on the east coast of Australia, Fiona's work is a testament to her passion for patterns and a deep appreciation for the beauty that surrounds her.

Fiona's creative process is a harmonious combination of watercolour and gouache, where bold colours and meticulously hand-drawn illustrations converge to produce paintings, patterns, and illustrations that echo her profound love for nature. Her art is a visual adventure that captures the essence of the natural world, inviting viewers to embark on a visual journey through the landscapes that inspire her.

In Fiona's creations, the beauty of the natural world is not just depicted; it is profoundly felt. Her work becomes a canvas where the natural world comes to life, each stroke of her brush revealing a deep connection to the environment. Through her use of bold colours and intricate details, Fiona transforms her artistic expressions into a reflection of the rich biodiversity and the serene landscapes that define her home.

Kellie De Waal

Kellie De Waal is a mixed media artist calling the picturesque suburb of Dunbogan on the NSW Mid North Coast home sweet home. She loves using a mix of materials to craft pieces that infuse Joy into the spaces they adorn. In her pursuit of art that truly speaks to her soul, she embarked on a creative journey, painting and crafting pieces that mirror her unique vision she desired for the canvas of her own home.

Kellie’s art is mash-up of vibrant colors and a whole spectrum of textures that might just make your eyes do a double take. She’s all about the exaggerated visuals, bringing to life creations using paint, beads, and light across various projects. She uses size as a concept, weaving the threads of nostalgia across her work to generate conversation around shared experiences growing up in Australia.

By day, she is also an award-winning marketing professional, blending her creative passions from both her personal and professional life together.

Leah Doeland

Leah Doeland, a self-taught artist from Port Macquarie, is known for her vibrant, multi-faceted creations. With a keen passion for colour, texture, and light-hearted humour, Leah explores unconventional mediums to craft thought-provoking art.

Her compositions invite viewers to see the world through fresh eyes, with captivating objects that spark curiosity. Leah's work, showcased locally and nationally, recently includes two public art installations.

Leah's impact extends beyond gallery walls, with her works finding a place in private collections not only within Australia but also on an international scale.
