Glasshouse Port Macquarie presents
Sydney Symphony Orchestra Pre-Concert Talk
Wednesday 20 May | 6.45pm to 7.15pm
There’s a great story behind every great piece of music.
Join us for one of Sydney Symphony’s renowned pre-concert talks, where Australia’s leading musical minds will take you behind the music, exploring the stories behind every piece on the program.
It’s a chance to hear more about the lives of the great composers, and the inspirations that fuelled their creativity.
For the Glasshouse Pre-Show Talk, we will be introducing Noah Lawrence:
Hailing from Bendigo, Victoria, Noah has performed side-by-side with most of Australia’s professional orchestras, and also as a chamber musician and soloist at the Bendigo Chamber Music Festival and Port Fairy Spring Festival.
He was the principal Cello of the Australian Youth Orchestra in 2024. Noah is at home in diverse musical contexts - he is experienced on the orchestral stage, in chamber music, in the opera pit, the recording studio, or even backing a jazz ensemble or metal band. His goal is always to create connection through performance. Noah is passionate about music communication and working to give everyone a deeper understanding of the arts.
He was the master of ceremonies at the second ever Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) Sydney Supporter Dinner in 2024, held at Bennelong restaurant in the Sydney Opera House, and he played and acted in SSO’s children’s performances of Peter and the Wolf in 2025.
He was an interview panellist at SSO’s 2026 season launch, and spoke before a number of Fellows chamber music performances during the 2025 season. Noah is currently serving as co-chair of the AYO Youth Council. Noah completed three years of study under Howard Penny at ANAM and was a Sydney Symphony Fellow during the 2025 season.

The Sydney Symphony: Music That Moves You
Wednesday 20 May | 7.30pm to 9.00pm
The Sydney Symphony Orchestra returns to Port Macquarie in 2026 for one night only, with a concert of music for – and inspired by – dance.
With folk dances and music for ballet, Conductor in Residence Benjamin Northey leads the Orchestra in this program including high-energy works by Stravinsky and Kodály.
Be moved by Stravinsky’s suite from The Firebird, an enchanting folk tale that bursts off the stage in a riot of colour and sound. And Zoltán Kodály draws from the folk music of Eastern Europe in the energetic Dances of Galánta.
Don’t miss your only chance to hear the Sydney Symphony in Port Macquarie this year!
"Northey and the orchestra were on top form in a beautifully structured performance. The bond and empathy created by Northey’s role as Conductor in Residence was very much in evidence and this was a cohesive, finely judged and, ultimately, thrilling performance" - STEVE MOFFATT, LIMELIGHT.
