Synopsis

Glasshouse Regional Gallery Presents:

Yarning With Yarn

with Renate Wilson

Join us at the Gallery for a hands-on community knitting workshop as part of Residue + Response: Tamworth Textile Triennial. Inspired by art piece Conversation Piece by exhibiting artist Kate Just, this drop-in activity invites you to sit, stitch and connect.

On Saturday 5 and Sunday 6, come along and create your own knitted square with local knitter Renate (Rene) Wilson. Each square (or creation) will be joined to Conversation Piece and continue its journey with the exhibition to the next venue on tour. All ages and skill levels welcome – no experience necessary!

Residue + Response: Tamworth Textile Triennial Exhibition

Residue + Response: Tamworth Textile Triennial builds on the tradition of the Tamworth Fibre Textile collection which first began in 1973, showcasing 50 years of contemporary textile artists.

As we unfold from the recent global events, we reflect on our connection with others, our shared history and possible futures. The 2023 Textile Triennial is a celebration of 50 years of the National Textile Collection promoting and sustaining the unique cultural heritage associated with both the history and technology of textile practice.

About the Artist

About Renate (Rene) Wilson

Rene Wilson is a passionate knitter and crocheter with over five decades of experience in the craft, first taught by her grandmother and mother at the age of eight. Over the years, she has lovingly created everything from jumpers and jackets to blankets, dolls, and beanies, finding joy and calm in every stitch.

Rene has shared her skills in a variety of settings - from community markets and library workshops to aged care facilities - always championing the therapeutic and connective power of yarn. She has also contributed to social causes, including knitting trauma teddies for the Red Cross to support fire and flood victims.

Now 63, Rene is excited to continue passing on the tradition and to share her love of yarn-based creativity with new hands and hearts.
